REVIEWS:
This is a fairly nondescript and somewhat
mysterious vinyl release of soulful instrumental hip-hop/downtempo. The
label is an arm of a California record store of the same name, other
than that, I’m at a loss for information on homeboy. His sound is nice,
though. Imagine Jay Dee if he used more synth pads, washes, and rhodes.
It’s great late-night material, but it could also set off the early
hours of a club set nicely. Highlights include the upbeat,
sophisticated stomper “Truth and Soul,” the spacy, hip-hop-oriented “In
the Morn,” and the analog broken beat banger “Monkmuse in da House,”
which provides a pleasantly surprising dash of dancefloor flavor. It’s
good to know that there are American artists putting out quality stuff
like this. If this sounds like your bag, then do yourself a favor and
search the Black Monk out.

Poo-Bah label was impressive, the beat May car of the California

The
