Gary Garay

Gary Garay, known by some as Alla, has been creating art since the early nineties. While street art has always been a part of his influence, it is not necessarily the focus. He works in mediums of paint, sculpture, drawing and graphic design, and has done everything from gallery shows to album covers over the years. The common theme in his work is that it always makes some kind of social commentary on a current aspect of living in Los Angeles. It touches on themes of mixing cultures, media and consumerism in the city of angels. He is a first generation, US born Mexican with an eye on the interplay of life vs. survival. Music is also a heavy part of Garay's inspiration. Garay has curated two shows at Avenue 50 Studio in LA, was heavily involved in the Mezcla collective and helped host the Summer of Love at LA's 33 1/3 in the summer of 2003.
